If you're locked out of your device due to a forgotten PIN code or lock screen password, here’s how you can reset it based on your device type.
For Android Devices:
Resetting your device will erase all data, including apps, photos, and contacts. If possible, back up your device beforehand.
Steps:
- Power off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons together.
- When the device logo appears, release the buttons.
- Use the recovery menu to select ‘Factory Reset’ (you may need to use volume buttons to navigate and power to confirm).
- Confirm by selecting ‘OK’ or ‘Yes’.
- Your phone will restart and walk you through the initial setup process, where you can create a new PIN.
For iPhone (iOS Devices):
iPhones cannot be reset with button combinations alone. You’ll need a computer or Apple ID access.
Method 1: Using a Computer (Finder or iTunes)
- Connect your iPhone to a Mac or PC.
- Open Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows).
- Put your phone in Recovery Mode:
- iPhone 8 or newer: Press and release Volume Up → Press and release Volume Down → Press and hold Power until the recovery screen appears.
- Select Restore when prompted.
- Wait for the process to complete. Then set up your iPhone and choose a new PIN.
Method 2: Using iCloud (if “Find My iPhone” is enabled)
- Visit iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
- Select Find iPhone > Select your device > Tap Erase iPhone.
- Once erased, you can set it up again with a new PIN.
