Welcome to Flex Mobile! We know telecom language can be a little confusing at times, so we’ve put together a simple glossary to help you understand the most common terms you might come across. Whether you're setting up your phone, checking your account, or contacting support—this guide is here to help!
Account & Plan Terms
Activation
The process of turning on your service so you can use your phone to make calls, send texts, or use data.
Autopay
A billing option where your monthly payment is automatically charged to your saved card or account.
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
You can bring your current phone to Flex Mobile as long as it’s compatible—just insert your Flex SIM or activate your eSIM.
Port-In / Porting
Want to keep your old phone number? Porting allows you to transfer it from your previous provider to Flex.
Port-Out
This is when your number is moved from Flex to another carrier. Once ported out, your Flex service will be canceled.
Plan Renewal
Your service plan renews every 30 days. You can renew manually or automatically if you’ve set up autopay.
Network & Connectivity Terms
APN (Access Point Name)
These are settings that help your phone connect to the internet and mobile data services. We usually configure this for you!
Data Throttling
Once you've used a certain amount of high-speed data, your speed may slow down. This is called throttling.
IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity)
A unique ID for your phone. We may ask for this to check compatibility or troubleshoot your device.
SIM Card
The chip that goes in your phone to connect you to the Flex Mobile network.
eSIM
A digital version of a SIM card—no chip required! Many newer phones support eSIM activation.
Roaming
Using your phone outside our service area, often while traveling. Flex Mobile doesn’t currently support international roaming.
Billing & Payment Terms
Billing Cycle
Your plan lasts for 30 days from the date of activation or renewal.
Out of Balance
If you run out of data, talk, or text, or your payment didn’t go through, your service may show as "out of balance."
Top-Up / Recharge
Adding more funds or reactivating your plan if it has expired or gone out of balance.
